Prof. Dr. Sonya Babu-narayan

Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan is a consultant adult congenital heart disease cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and Reader at Imperial College London. She is also associate medical director at the British Heart Foundation, a UK charity which is the UK’s largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. Her BSc was awarded by University College London where she also graduated in medicine. Her PhD in congenital heart disease was awarded by Imperial College London. In 2006 she was awarded an AHA Outstanding Contribution to Paediatric Research Award for a congenital heart disease randomised trial. She continues to deliver competitively funded research including related to heart failure and arrhythmia outcomes in adults with tetralogy of Fallot. She has ESC accreditation in both general and also congenital heart disease cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). She has served as British Society of CMR task force lead for congenital heart disease research. She has served 15 years as a local research ethics committee member, was associate editor for Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance 2013-2017 and is associate editor at Heart.
